Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), with the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), launched the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme in March 2014 with the objective of enhancing the number of PhDs in the areas of Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT Enabled Services (IT/ITES) in the country. Phase-I of the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme, with an approved outlay of Rs. 466 Crore concluded in December 2025.

  • 823 Full-Time and 189 Part-Time PhD candidates completed their PhD programmes.
  • 18 Full-Time and 07 Part-Time PhD candidates submitted their theses.
  • 158 Young Faculty Research Fellowships were awarded.
  • 90 patents were filed and over 5,750 research papers were published.
  • Workshops were conducted for assessment and enhancement of research quality.
