m4agri objective is to empower the farmers by providing the right information at the right time by implementing a mobile-based agro-advisory system. This is a mobile pull and push-based system where agriculture-related information and advisory services can be pulled/ pushed by the farmers using their mobile phones. The system had a mobile interface at the front end (farmers) and a web interface at the back end, which were managed by agriculture experts.

The system allows data to be transmitted through voice, text, images, and videos from both ends (farmers to experts and back). The system will be connected to a centralised database that stores all the information about the farm and the farmer as well as the past queries/transactions of each farmer. The experts at the back end (data centre and virtual expert) can access the farmer’s database while responding to their queries. Apart from discussing about the issues/problems, the farmers can subscribe to various information services depending on their needs.
