DigiLocker

Targeted at the idea of paperless governance, DigiLocker is a platform for the issuance and verification of documents & certificates digitally, thus eliminating the use of physical documents. DigiLocker has ushered in a paradigm shift towards paperless governance, i.e., it has helped citizens and departments shift from paper-based processes to paperless processes.

It has provided critical documents such as photo identity, education, transport, finance, and municipal-related documents to the citizens thereby empowering them digitally. This comprehensive exercise began with contacting ‘issuers’, helping them digitize their documents and delivering these digital documents to citizens through the DigiLocker application. This has resulted in over 6.27 billion authentic digital documents (by September 21, 2023) being made available to over 196 million registered users/citizens using the platform.
