India hosted Global IndiaAI Summit

The "Global IndiaAI Summit 2024" was held from 3 to 4 July in New Delhi, India, highlighting the Government of India's commitment to the responsible advancement of AI. The summit covered essential aspects of the AI ecosystem, such as Compute Capacity, Foundational Models, Datasets, Application Development, Future Skills, Startup Financing, and Safe and Trusted AI.

G20 was hosted by India

India held the Presidency of the G20 from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023. The Summit focused on key pillars of the AI ecosystem, including Compute Capacity, Foundational Models, Datasets, Application Development, Future Skills, Startup Financing, and Safe and trusted AI. The G20 Presidency also heralds for India the start of "Amritkaal," 25 years commencing from the 75th anniversary of its independence on 15 August 2022, leading up to the centenary of its independence

Government of India launched the "National Language Translation Mission"

‘Digital India BHASHINI’ seeks to enable easy access to the internet and digital services in Indian languages, including voice-based access, and help the creation of content in Indian languages. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inauguration of the Digital India Week 1 2022 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

UMANG International Version On 23 November 2020, UMANG app's international version was launched by Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The international version of UMANG app called ‘UMANG International’ was launched to mark three years of UMANG. The global version is for select countries that include USA, UK, Canada, Australia, UAE, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

The Aarogya Setu app was launched

The Government of India launched ArogyaSetu mobile app developed in a public-private partnership to bring the people of India together in a resolute fight against COVID-19. The App, called ‘AarogyaSetu’ joins Digital India for the health and well-being of every Indian. It will enable people to assess themselves the risk of their catching the coronavirus infection. It will calculate this based on their interaction with others, using cutting-edge Bluetooth technology, algorithms and artificial intelligence.

National Policy on Electronics was approved

Recognizing the electronics sector’s unique dynamics, significant opportunities, and structural challenges, the Government of India notified the National Policy on Electronics in 2012 (NPE 2012), which provided a road map for the development of the electronics sector in the country. The Policy is holistic, investor-friendly, market-driven, and focused on upgrading infrastructure, providing incentives to offset disabilities, and promoting innovation and human resource development.

Prime Minister launched the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)

Prime Minister launched the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) in 2018 to usher digital literacy in rural India for covering Six Crore rural households (one person per household). Around 30- 40 beneficiaries PMGDISHA candidates across all the districts assembled at the NIC office of their respective districts.

Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) was launched

The GST portal was officially launched on 1 July 2017 and significant achievement has been made by doubling the number of registered taxpayers to 1.23 crores, more than 44 crore returns filed on this portal in first 34 months with more than 23.84 lakh crores tax having been paid on this portal during this period.

Launch of Bharat Interface for Money App

BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is an Indian mobile payment app developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Launched on 30 December 2016, it is intended to facilitate e-payments directly through banks and encourage cashless transactions.

Digital India Program launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi launched the Digital India programme on 1 July 2015. Digital India has been envisioned as an ambitious umbrella programme to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It comprises various initiatives under a single programme each targeted to prepare India for becoming a knowledge economy and for bringing good governance to citizens through synchronized and co-ordinated engagement of the entire Government.
