India and Sweden Deepen AI Partnership Through SITAC Framework

Aadhaar gets a face: UIDAI launches Aadhaar mascot Udai (उदय)

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) today launched the Aadhaar mascot, a new resident-facing communication companion to simplify public understanding of Aadhaar services. The Aadhaar mascot named Udai (उदय) will be helpful in making Aadhaar-related information more relatable, and people-friendly. It will simplify communication of Aadhaar services – whether it is about updates, authentication, offline verification, selective sharing of information, new technology adoption, responsible usage and many more.

Commemorating National Youth Day on January 12, 2026, the Government of India reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment by spotlighting the newly launched National AI Literacy Program and its flagship YUVA AI FOR ALL course, bridging Swami Vivekananda’s vision of enlightened youth with the tools for an AI-driven future. The program was launched at the Rajasthan Regional AI Impact Summit held in Jaipur on January 6, 2026, by Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister, Rajasthan; Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Electronics & IT, Railways and Information & Broadcasting; and Shri Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Commerce & Industry. The National AI Literacy Program aligns with the Government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat, the expansion of Digital Public Infrastructure, and India’s commitment to inclusive, responsible, and democratic adoption of AI.

The meeting convened senior policymakers, academic leaders, industry experts and practitioners to advance national deliberations on education reform, workforce transition and inclusive, human-centric AI adoption. The two-day meeting (5–6 January 2026), chaired by Prof. T. G. Sitharamserves as a key thematic precursor to the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 15–20, 2026, and is expected to inform national-level deliberations and policy outcomes.

Government approves 22 proposals under the 3rd tranche of Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS)

In continuation to the approvals of 24 applications for INR 12,704 crore announced earlier, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has further approved 22 proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with projected investment of INR 41,863 crore, projected production of INR 2,58,152 crore. These approvals are expected to generate 33,791 direct employment opportunities.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce & Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, said that emerging technologies such as drone technology, Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity are playing a significant role in creating new employment opportunities. He was addressing the “Technology and Skill Development Conference” held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee NIELIT Extension Centre campus in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh on 21 December 2025. Shri Jitin Prasada attended the conference as the Chief Guest. The objective of the conference was to promote technology-based skill development, innovation, and entrepreneurship among youth.
